"I have chosen to be here right now, in all my splendor and glory!"

Last night I did my first coaching session.  Because of the in-depth training in the Basic Coaching Model I felt very comfortable with my client.  Before she arrived, I did a "gremlin taming" meditation which helped me to focus on her and her needs. The meditation I learned from the book Taming Your Gremlin (Rick Carson). I focused on my breathing for a few minutes, being gentle with myself. If my awareness shifted, I simply brought my awareness back to my breath.  Then I became aware of my skin and any sensations I felt, as well as any sounds I was hearing, noting that my skin is the boundary that separates me from the rest of the world.

After a few minutes of this, I noticed my breath passing behind my heart and gently brushing against it.  As I was aware of my heart, I said to myself on the inhalation, "I'm taming," and on the out breath, "my gremlin," repeating this several times, realizing my breath passing by my heart.  I then gently lifted my eyelids and looked outward noticing my surroundings and said some loving words to myself, "I have chosen to be here right now, in all my splendor and glory!"

We spent about 25 minutes doing the session.  Everything that my teacher Debbie did in her demo on the phone occurred: focusing on a do-able issue, building emotion, creating a "baby step" plan (my client wanted to do five days of walking, with brainstorming we honed it to three times in the next week), brainstorming a support system, and then a commitment to follow through. The session flowed so well and I felt so in the zone. I love this!  I know that I am on the right track for my new coaching career. I hope everyone else is finding success and happy coaching!
